Dad's Diary June 16 & 17

June 16
1934 - No swim event. To Bend instead and got Jim's watch fixed. Saw Delores in the evening. Plenty warm.

1935 - Kay and I rode down to see Dr. Freeland with Ed & Naomi. Saw Mr. and Mrs. Turney and the Masons. Theron died.

1936 - My tooth still bothers me. Caught 3 nice trout with Amiel's outfit. Got some good pictures.

1937 - More side walk and rain. Bought a new battery. We went to Chas. & Walt's.

1938 - Just about finished with the head gates. Wagners were here today as were Charley and Arthur.

June 17
1934 - Went to bridge dedication. A fire. Awful hot. Saw Warm Springs beat The Dalles. Rode back in the dust. Tired. (I guess this would be the Mill Creek Bridge, built when Hwy. 26 crossed the reservation from Warm Springs to Portland. This would be the original bridge, it has been rebuilt in a more modern fashion. My dad remembers one of the first across the old bridge was an old woman on a horse. He said the bridge swayed as the old horse took its time crossing - m)

1935 - Harry Kallander caught a 20 inch trout in Mill Creek today. Kay is still sick and in bed.

1936 - Kay and I went to the show "Sequoia". Back in the ditch. Alvis came back last Monday.

1937 - Kay and Fat ( my older brother - m) went to show. I caught 12 fish in the river down dry creek.

1938 - Cool and showery. Rode down to agency and visitied Guerins.

2009 - Our daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter are here from Seattle this weekend. We shopped 'til we dropped today. Had a very nice day. The weather is, and has been for days, much like the weather my dad was reporting 70+ years ago - stormy and wet and quite often hot. It becomes very muggy under those conditions.
