Dad's Diary June 12 & 13

June 12
1934 - Buck gave me a piece of his birthday cake - 14. We have 105 men in camp. It was hot today.

1935 - Rode down to the agency today to see Hubbell but he wasn't there. Kay is better today.

1936 - My jaw is pretty sore so I didn't work. Caught a couple of large fish in the creek.

1937 - Saw Dr. Johnstone today. Walt and I fished at Trout Lake. Caught 62. The mosquitoes ate me up.

1938 - Was up on the tower in the PM. Charley gave my car a working over and took the short out of it.

June 13
1934 - Warm today. Mrs. Parr, Jack Reva and I went riding again. I am going to wrestle at Bear Springs next Tuesday.

1935 - Rode up to Blue Lake with Amiel today. In the evening Kay and I rode to the show with Ed "The Case of the Howling Dog."

1936 - We went to the carnival at Bend. Also got some groceries at Hartleys and paid bill.

1937 - We went with the Rhoans to HeHe. No fish ate at Beaver, came back and ate supper at the falls with Whites.

1938 - Just took it easy today. Went to the agency in the evening. Priscilla has another boy. (This must have been Bobby - m)

The reservation consists of 640,000 acres and is bordered on the west by the Cascade Mountain Range. This is where my father spent so much time. Old Mill, Badger, Beaver - all these creeks are on the west side of the reservation. The CCCs were building dams, roads, improving access on the west side. My dad, although he was from Alaska, became very familiar with all these areas. That knowledge, and my mother being from here, led him to stay in Warm Springs and eventually retire from the Bureau of Indian Affairs as the Fire Control Officer.

He knew every creek and road on the reservation and even had a spring named after him, "Courtney Spring" - I'll try to find it this year and get a picture for us.
