Dad's Diary, March & April 1930

March
1 - I saw a show at Chemawa, "The Grey Hound Limited."
2 - The band played for the students as they marched to church and supper.
3 - Alva and I had a quarrel.
4 - I missed breakfast.
5 - Letter writing day.
6 - I got a haircut.
7 - Alva and I made up again.
8 - We had a dance at Chemawa.
9 - We had pictures taken of classes and societies for the Annual.
10 - Mr. Geo. P. LaVatta gave us a talk.
11 - I listened to the funeral services of Chief Justice Taft in the auditorium over the radio.
12 - It won't be long now till school is out.
13 - Robair got the mumps.
14 - I am on the janitor detail in Mr. Fisher's room.
15 - I saw a show at C.I.S. "The land of the Silver Fox"
16 - Some more pictures were taken for the Class of '30's Annual.
17 - Today is the band's birthday.  It is 35 years old.  We had a banquet in the D.S.
18 - I weigh 118 pounds.
19 - Nothing interesting.
20 - It rained today.
21 - Robair came out of the hospital (resurrection).
22 - Petty and I went to town and saw a show "Seven Days Leave."
23 - It rained today,
24 - I am on the janitor detail in Mr. Turner's room.
15 - I saw a spring football game between Chemawa's first and second teams.
26 - This is an ideal spring day.
27 - The band went to Salem for the Spring opening show.  We saw a show "The Sacred Flame"
28 - Declamation Contest at Chemawa.
29 - Girls town day.  Rube, Egg and I saw a show at Hollywood "Oh Yea!"  We were the only ones in the theatre.
30 - A picture of the band was taken for the annual.
31 - We had body inspection in Brewer hall.

April
1 - This reminds me of what I am the other 364 days of the year.
2 - John cut my hair
3 - April showers bring May flowers.
4 - Chemawa beat Silverton 5 to 4 in a baseball game.
5 - I listened to Shep's radio.
6 - Rube, Milton and I went for a ride (egg)
7 - Nothing unusual happened today.
8 - Listened to Amos an' Andy.
9 - The Reliance band practiced for the Open Session.  I played first cornet.
10 - Reliance Open Session.
11 - Woodburn beat C.I.S. in a baseball game.
12 - I saw a show at C.I.S. "From Headquarters."  Murray threw a burning rag up on the roof of Brewer Hall and had to get a ladder to get the rag.  He is a fine fireman.
13 - Egg and I got a nice wetting down while we were out in the woods eating.
14 - It is still raining.
15 - I weigh 116 pounds.
16 - Robair got into the school orchestra.
17 - I cheated from Thursday chapel but got caught.
18 - I had to march walks for cheating last night.
19 - The gang went out eating.
20 - Easter Sunday we went out eating again.
21 - I'm on the janitor detail.
22 - Chemawa's baseball team beat Woodburn 5 to 4.
23 - I went to town with Rube.
24 - We are working on the annual.
25 - Chemawa's baseball team beat Gervais.
26 - The gang went out eating.
27 - I saw a show at Chemawa "The Million Dollar Collar."
28 - An eclipse of the sun occurred today.
29 - Jack gave me a fighting haircut.
30 - We had dress parade.
