Leaving Aunt Pat Shaw Campbell in Durango
Last September our Aunt Pat Shaw Campbell passed on at the age of 90. Durango, Colorado-ites told us to not consider burial there until May or June. Some friends and family gathered to bury her next to her parents. Her father, Roy, died in 1946 and her mother in 1993. She has now joined them. The cat statue was in Pat's house, outside her bedroom door, so we brought it to sit by her side. During the memorial, two squirrels were playing tag across the grounds, then up and around and around the spruce trees. It was very appropriate because Pat fed the squirrels on her porch. She always kept a bowl of peanuts for them. After we cleaned out the house, the squirrels kept coming, but all we had for them were Cheerios. They took them, but didn't look very happy about it.
Bob, Greenmount Cemetery, was a very nice, considerate and helpful man He had everything set up and ready for us. The cemetery is the most beautiful one I have seen. It is covered with trees, two huge spruce trees cover the Shaw section. After the memorial, Amelia bought lunch for all of us It was delicious. Then we traveled to Amelia, Tommy, and Ury's home to enjoy their magnificent patio and parklike setting! Amelia served up homemade cheesecake and tea - the day could not have ended better!
On the way home we stopped in Moab at Hole in the Rock. It was interesting, but seemed to somewhat desecrate the rock with the white paint.
Aunt Pat now rests in peace with her parents.
