Dad's Diary July 30 - August 1

July 30
1934 - Was up most of the night. Heard Reva on the phone. Geo. C and I went to Deer Springs hunting. No luck. Sure am lonely.

1935 - Rode up to Beaver with Cliff M. Kay will come up tomorrow. It seems funny without her here.

1936 - Was hot today. We are filling in our ditches now. Hankins was visiting Kay this PM.

1937 - Was awful cool today. Simnasho Post Office burned down. Cut a little wood after supper. (I never did know there was a Simnasho PO! - m)

1938 - The visitility is clearing up.

July 31
1934 - Men came back from the fire. I was a little "on" for a while. My pal Ernie is in trouble.

1935 - Went to show. "Sweet Music." Rudy Vallee, was good. Kay came back with us. We rode with Alvin. Stan and his wife are here.

1936 - Worked with the plumber today. Was hot. Picked some choke cherries.

1937 - Was cold and windy today. Cut some wood in the evening.

1938 - They are celebrating at Simnasho. Huckleberry Feast. (Note: As I write this on July 30, 2009, the huckleberry Feast is planned for Sunday, August 2, 2009. It is not determined by the calendar, but by the ripeness of the berries- m)

August 1
1934 - It is plenty warm now days. Reva called today Ws good to hear her voice. Played the phonograph and got the blues. (The phonograph is a tall Edison. He said someone at the camp who was leaving, gave it to him. It has thick Edison records. It is now at my house. m)

1935 - Kay is going to Gresham next week with Stanley after her mother and Zelma. Was warm today. Another month gone. (This was probably the end of berry picking in Gresham. We went as children in June to pick strawberries, then it was raspberries - m)

1936 - Paid Chet $10.00 for our house. caught 30 fish. Warm again. (The house is the Little House I have told you about - started out as a shed on the side of a barn. Dad added boards to it to make a house as his little family grew. Chet is Mr. See - he owned the store. It is now closed - m)

1937 - Had a fire down by Stacona's place. A little warmer today.

1938 - Was windy today. Caught 3 Dollies.
